How to take control of food portion size
I want to let you know a little more about my diet story. At this page I will provide a short insight into my life and what lead me to be so fascinated with nutrition and healthy dieting.
For most of my life I wasn’t skinny but I was able to control a food portion without thinking about it too much. Then everything changed. Since I came to America I noticed the big difference- Portions.
I am originally from Russia, and when I first came to the United States, I was used to the amount of food that we served as portions back home. In Russia, the plate is only as big as it needs to be – in America, the plate is as big as it can be.
At first, my friends and I were amazed by the huge food portions! We had never ever seen so much food intended for one person before in our lives – not in Russia, and not in the rest of Europe either. We would go to restaurants all together and order one or two meals for all of us, and it was always enough.
It’s not just restaurants, though. It seems like all single portion food in America is enough food for two or three meals. Eventually, I started to get used to it. I would go to restaurants alone and eat the whole plate. Bad habit!
As you can probably guess, that’s where weight problems can started.
That's why, as soon as I realized what was going on, I started controlling my portions by eating from smaller plates. As soon things settled into shape I went back to eating portions like I had in Russia. What’s interesting is, I eat much less, but still feel full.
I also found new ways to get quick and easy meals and meal replacements that didn’t rely on huge portions.
